Lake Tahoe is mostly known for its days on the water and the slopes, but the nights are worth planning too. Some groups want the casino lights at Stateline, some want a moonlit trail and some want the best night of the trip without leaving the cabin. Here is what there is to do around the lake after dark.
Host a mixology class at your rental
For the night everyone should plan around, bring the evening to wherever you are staying. A professional mixologist arrives at your cabin, Airbnb or vacation rental with all the professional equipment and glassware and walks the group through making 3 cocktails each in about an hour and a half, with games along the way. You just pick up the spirits from a simple shopping list we send ahead of time, and nobody has to drive home at the end of the night. Book a South Lake Tahoe mixology class or an Incline Village mixology class. Rather have the drinks made for you? Book a mobile bartender at Lake Tahoe instead.
See a show at the Stateline casinos
Right on the California and Nevada line in South Lake Tahoe, Harrah's Lake Tahoe, Bally's Lake Tahoe, Golden Nugget Lake Tahoe and Caesars Republic Lake Tahoe, the former Harveys, hold most of the lake's nightlife, with casino floors, bars, restaurants and showrooms. Caesars Republic took its new name in 2025 and added new places to eat and drink, including a cocktail and live music lounge. Heavenly Village, with its shops, bars and restaurants, is a short walk away. You must be 21 to gamble.
Catch a concert in Crystal Bay
On the north shore, the Crown Room at the Crystal Bay Club Casino books touring bands and tribute acts through the year in a room small enough to feel close to the stage. Check the calendar when you book your trip, as popular shows can sell out.
Bowl and sing karaoke in Incline Village
Bowl Incline mixes 16 lanes, an arcade and pool tables with an upstairs lounge for guests 21 and over, with karaoke and dancing. It is one of the few places on the north shore where a group can make a whole evening of it in one spot.
Snowshoe or snowmobile under a full moon
In winter, Tahoe Adventure Company runs guided full moon snowshoe treks around the lake that set off around moonrise and finish with hot drinks under the stars. For more speed, Zephyr Cove Resort, a few miles from Stateline, runs guided snowmobile tours on full moon nights. Both follow the moon and the snow, so book once your dates are set.
Ski after dark at Boreal
Boreal Mountain, off Interstate 80 near Donner Summit, keeps some runs lit for night skiing and riding through the ski season, so the day on the mountain does not have to end at sunset.
Skate by the fire pits at Northstar
The outdoor rink in the Village at Northstar stays open into the evening, ringed with fire pits and heat lamps, and the village restaurants are right there for dinner after. It makes an easy, low-key evening on the north side of the lake.
Practical tips
Plan your ride home before you head out. Rideshare coverage thins out quickly away from Stateline and the main towns, and winter roads around the lake can be icy at night. That is a big part of why nights in at the rental are so popular. The lake sits at over 6,000 feet, so drink plenty of water along with whatever else you are drinking.
Lake Tahoe nightlife questions
What is there to do at night in South Lake Tahoe?
Most of the nightlife is at Stateline, where Harrah's, Bally's, Golden Nugget and Caesars Republic Lake Tahoe have casino floors, bars and shows, with Heavenly Village a short walk away. South Lake Brewing Company has live music on Friday and Saturday nights. For a night in, book a mixology class at your rental.
Is North Lake Tahoe or South Lake Tahoe better for nightlife?
South Lake Tahoe, around the Stateline casinos and Heavenly Village, has the most going on after dark. The north shore is quieter, with concerts at the Crystal Bay Club, the 21 and over lounge at Bowl Incline and pubs in Truckee and Incline Village. Many groups on the north shore make a night at the rental the main event.
Can you ski at night near Lake Tahoe?
Yes. Boreal Mountain, off Interstate 80 near Donner Summit, runs night skiing on lit runs during the ski season. Check the resort for this season's night hours before you go.
What is there to do in Lake Tahoe on a full moon night?
In winter, Tahoe Adventure Company leads guided full moon snowshoe treks that set off around moonrise and end with hot drinks, and Zephyr Cove Resort runs snowmobile tours on full moon nights. Both depend on snow, so book once your dates are set.
